“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.” (Genesis 1:1–5)

In the Book of Genesis, God’s creative work didn’t begin with the beauty we see today—no birds singing, no colourful flowers, no majestic sunsets. It started in darkness, emptiness, and chaos. Yet even in the mess, the Spirit of God was present, hovering over the waters, incubating hope and transformation.

Sometimes our lives feel like that—dark, empty, and chaotic. But right there, God is ready to speak light into the darkness. The Spirit longs to move, to bring order and purpose from the mess. But that needs surrender and faith. Without faith we cannot please God.

Day One: Let There Be Light

God didn’t create the sun until Day Four. So where did the light come from on Day One?

Before circumstances change, God brings revelation. Before healing is visible, God declares healing. Before breakthrough arrives, God proclaims freedom. The light on Day One came from God’s Word.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (John 1:1-3)

The beginning of anything meaningful always starts with His Word—His wisdom, His timing, His plan—even when we don’t fully understand. As Isaiah reminds us: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord (Isaiah 55:8–9).

Abraham was called the father of nations long before he ever held Isaac. David was anointed king while still tending sheep. Likewise, the light of God’s Word shines even before the sun appears.

Day Two: Sky and Atmosphere

God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters,” and He began to shape and separate the waters, forming the sky. After light comes formation—a season where God builds character, resilience, and trust. It’s a time of separation from old mindsets and emotional chaos. It’s God preparing us for what’s next.

Day Three: Land, Seas, and Vegetation

Once the world is formed, God fills it—bringing life, fruitfulness, and abundance. In the same way, He longs to fill our hearts with His Spirit even before fulfilling all His promises in our circumstances. Don’t wait for Day Four to overflow with His presence. Every day has a purpose. Every season is an opportunity for transformation.

Just as God declared, “It is good,” at the end of each day, let’s embrace His goodness now and fill ourselves with what is good, trusting that His plan is unfolding one day at a time.

Day Four: Sun, Moon, and Stars

Then comes the visible breakthrough—the fulfillment. The sun, moon, and stars shine forth—bringing light, order, and clarity. What we believed in the dark, God now brings into the light.

Isn’t it interesting that God said, “Let there be light,” on Day One—before He created the sun? His presence and Word bring light even before any visible solution. Like God, who declared, “It is good,” at every step—even before everything was perfect—let’s celebrate each victory and fulfillment as they are. Every small step of progress is part of His plan. Don’t wait for perfection to give thanks. His works are always good, even if it is not what we have expected and even if it is not in this side of eternity.

Day 5 – Fish and Birds

God fills the seas with living creatures and creates birds to fly above the earth. He blesses them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply.” Multiplication always follows God’s blessing. He calls us to live fruitful lives, not just for ourselves but to bless others. Even before the masterpiece is complete, God speaks fruitfulness over what He creates.

Day 6 – Land Animals and Humanity

Now God creates the animals that live on land, and then He creates us—male and female—in His own image. He blesses us to be fruitful and multiply and gives us stewardship over the earth.

Here, He commanded both humanity and the animals to be fruitful and multiply. But there’s a difference: humanity was made in His image, a gift that carries both great honour and great responsibility. As His image bearers, we’re called to lead, to love, and to steward His creation wisely, ruling with respect and carrying His wisdom.

But to do this, we need to bear spiritual fruit: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22–23). Only through a relationship with the Holy Spirit—who hovers over the waters of our hearts and points us to Jesus—can we truly produce this fruit. In our own efforts, we may try, but true fruit cannot grow in our flesh alone. Surrendering our souls to the Holy Spirit of God is the only way to cultivate a life that overflows with His goodness. Without Him, we end up chasing the wrong kind of fruit. Wisdom cannot be found apart from the Creator.

Day 7 – Rest

God rests from all His work, blessing the seventh day and making it holy. It’s not that God needs rest like we do. Instead, He chooses to build rest and celebration into the rhythm of His creation. He created in some moments and rested and celebrated in others, and decided that this would be part of His creation story.

Therefore, we’re called to do the same—to embrace every season, to pause, to savour, and and celebrate, then to rise and begin again. Our journey of faith is a walk—always moving forward, step by step, stumbling at times, but becoming more like Jesus as we seek both rest and holiness at the end of every season.

Embrace Every Season

Let’s celebrate Day One, Day Two, and Day Three—because Day Four is coming. And even after Day Four, there’s more—Days Five, Six, and beyond. Let’s stay faithful. Let’s keep praising.

No matter where we are—whether Day One, or Day Four—let’s trust that God is at work in every season. Let’s surrender to His Spirit, hold fast to His Word, and allow Him to fill us. Miracles often happen in stages, but they always begin with: “Let there be light.”
